The fact that our leaders are even considering parking charges for both Balboa Park and the zoo shows how little “America’s Finest City” cares about locals and tourists. Balboa Park is a treasure that has been available to people without parking charges for over 100 years, and the zoo for more than 50 years. We are members of the Zoological Society because we support the work it does. If we feel like taking a casual walk around the park or a quick trip to the zoo, we have always been able to do so without incurring parking charges.
Perhaps if the city were smarter about how it spent its money and did not throw it away on undeserving causes, it would be able to preserve a tradition that is important to San Diego. Charging for parking at wonderful places like Balboa Park and the zoo is a really ill-conceived plan.
