H-E-B is not only adding stores in and around Fort Worth, it is also adding warehouse space.

The San Antonio-based grocer filed plans for Project Roadrunner — a 139,000-square-foot warehouse and storage space at 6900 AWG Way, according to a state filing. The estimated $20 million building will be located in an industrial area in south Fort Worth, according to the filing.

“This is a general warehouse and storage space to support expansion across North Texas,” said Mabrie Jackson, managing director of public affairs for the grocer in an e-mail.

H-E-B, which has long had a presence in Central Texas, has been expanding in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the past several years, opening stores in Mansfield and north Fort Worth in 2024.

Earlier this month, the chain opened a site in Prosper. In July, the company announced plans to build a store on the 18.2 acres it owns in the Walsh development in west Fort Worth. H-E-B now has nine locations in North Texas.

More power to ya

Base Power, an Austin-based startup that provides a battery-power home energy model, expanded its operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The company opened an office and warehouse in Grapevine and added 10 employees in the area.

Since launching last year in the Austin area, Base has expanded across Texas.

Base’s energy plan includes a whole-home backup battery — with no solar required though is compatible with homes that have it. When the grid goes down, the battery automatically powers the home. Unlike some traditional backup systems, Base earns revenue by providing power to the grid when the energy is not needed for the home.

The company raised more than $270 million to drive expansion, building on partnerships with homebuilder Lennar and several utilities.

The company was founded by Zach Dell, the son of Michael Dell of Dell Technologies, and Justin Lopas. Base now has more than 200 employees across its Austin headquarters, a Bay Area engineering hub and statewide field operations.

Business park acquired

Harbor Capital, an Austin-based industrial real estate investment firm, acquired Shoreline Business Park, a 190,008-square-foot, fully leased light industrial park located near the Great Southwest Industrial District in Arlington.

Harbor Capital plans to make improvements to the property. The sale was brokered by Stream Realty’s capital markets team, who represented the seller in the transaction.

S2 Industrial Property Management will manage the property.

September dirt

Dirt will officially begin turning Sept. 5 for the Van Zandt project, an eight-story, 250,000-square-foot mixed-use development that includes multifamily units, office space, and street-level restaurant and retail space at the northwest corner of West 7th and Foch streets.

Omaha, Nebraska-based Goldenrod Companies plans to begin construction on the project that will include 100,000 square feet of high-end office space, a parking garage, 226 apartments and 13,000 square feet of retail.

In August, Goldenrod named Oline Construction as the general contractor for the project.

Goldenrod is planning another nearby project, One University at 1001 University Drive across from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. That project is expected to have about 12,000 square feet of street-level retail/restaurant space along University Drive, more than 800 parking spaces, about 120,000 square feet of office space, 254 multifamily units and a 171-room Fort Worth-branded hotel. No timeframe for that project has been announced.
