AUSTIN, Texas — A court hearing for Shane James, the man accused of killing six people in Austin and San Antonio in 2023, was rescheduled to next month.
The 9:15 a.m. hearing in the 147th District Court was rescheduled to Sept. 16, where there will be an update on defense expert testimony.
During the brief proceeding, prosecutors requested fingerprint testing and the use of DNA samples collected in a rape kit. Defense attorneys did not object to the request.
James is charged with capital murder, attempted capital murder and aggravated assault in connection with the December 2023 shooting spree. He is accused of killing his parents in San Antonio before driving to Austin, where authorities say he killed four more people and wounded three others, including two police officers.
James was taken into custody Dec. 5, 2023. He was initially ruled incompetent to stand trial in October 2024 and committed to a mental health facility for treatment before a judge later ruled him competent to proceed.
