JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Customers who spent thousands of dollars at LivSmooth laser hair removal clinics say they were blindsided when the company suddenly shut down all of its Florida locations.
Juliana Mannino told the News4JAX I-TEAM she purchased a package in July worth several thousand dollars, only to receive an email weeks later announcing the business was closing.
“They sold that to me knowing they were going to shut down,” Mannino said.
When Mannino went to the Tapestry Park location in Jacksonville, she found the doors locked and the office cleared out. The closure notice cited “financial insolvency” as the reason for the shutdown.
The I-TEAM called multiple LivSmooth locations across the state. Each call went to voicemail, with an automated message directing customers to the company’s website. The website repeats the same closure message sent to customers by email and does not offer any information about refunds.
Mannino says she only completed one hair removal session despite LivSmooth’s “guarantee for life.”
“A refund would be nice, or even a Plan B. One session is not enough for the amount we spent,” she said.
Consumer advocates encourage customers to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Florida Attorney General’s Office.
Customers who used a credit card to pay for their service may want to consider a chargeback. Otherwise, if you’ve taken out a loan to pay for treatment, you’re still on the hook to keep making those payments.
The shutdown impacts all LivSmooth locations in Florida.
