A vandal targeted the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood, a spokesperson said.
The spokesperson told NBC10 a picture of the Israeli flag on the museum’s building, located on 101 South Independence Mall, was sprayed with red paint Monday morning. NBC10 responded to the museum and spotted the message underneath the Israeli flag, “The Weitzman stands with Israel,” covered in red paint.
The spokesperson said the museum notified Philadelphia police.
“Appallingly, vandalizing Jewish institutions has become a daily occurrence in America. The ADL reported over 9000 cases just this past year,” the spokesperson wrote. “Unfortunately, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History has become part of that statistic. We will not be deterred from continuing to fulfill our mission.”
NBC10 reached out to police who did not provide additional details on the investigation.
