SAN ANTONIO – A suspect who allegedly charged at police officers with a weapon, leading officers to fatally open fire, has been identified.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the suspect as 34-year-old Justin Hernandez, who died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Just before midnight on Saturday, when officers were called to the Knight’s Inn located at 4039 East Houston Street for a cutting in progress.

According to Police Chief William McManus, while officers were speaking with the caller at the door, the suspect threatened them and moved “aggressively” towards them.

Police were originally called to the scene for reports of a cutting in progress. When they arrived, they allegedly found Hernandez cutting himself inside a room at the Knight’s Inn.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured. An internal investigation into the shooting is underway.
