James Hudson has made a couple of tempers hot while keeping Andrew Thomas’ seat warm.
There was no sign of Thomas on the field during Monday’s Giants practice, which served as a reminder that it still is not set in stone that one of the NFL’s best left tackles will be ready to start Week 1, even though he was activated last week from the physically unable to perform list.
If Thomas is sidelined, the Giants likely would turn to Hudson — who took the vast majority of first-team reps at left tackle during training camp — against the Commanders.
“I think bringing him in here was really important,” said left guard Jon Runyan, a former college teammate of Hudson’s. “He brings a different mindset … a good edge [as a] physical player. He’s been that kind of tone-setter for us at tackle, and he’s doing well.”
