SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: GOOD SAMARITAN OR ROTTEN THIEF?

Someone shattered the front and rear passenger windows of a 2016 Lincoln MKC parked in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive at about 11:43 a.m. on Aug. 18. They could have been either trying to give two dogs who had been left inside with the engine running fresh air or steal from the vehicle’s owner, who had just left the bank.

UNIVERSITY PARK

18 Monday

A shady thief stole a paint spraying rig before 7:30 a.m. on Marquette Street.

Reported at 10:08 a.m.: A delivery truck hit and damaged the road in Snider Plaza.

Reported at 5:49 p.m.: A package plunderer stole parcels containing green plastic hanging plant items, and six rolls of stamps from a home on Caruth Boulevard.

Reported at 6:07 p.m.: A monster thief stole a Labubu doll from a locked Porsche Cayenne in The Plaza at Preston Center.

Reported at 6:20 p.m.: A burglar stole a Sig Sauer P320-XCOMPACT 9mm pistol with a 15 round magazine and one round in the chamber, a lunch box, a MacBook Air, a briefcase, an iPad Pro, a leather notebook, and AirPods Pro from a locked GMC Sierra in The Plaza at Preston Center.

A criminal cruiser stole a Land Rover Range Rover from Milton Avenue before 11:05 a.m.

20 Wednesday

Reported at 3:15 p.m.: A thief stole property worth between $100 and $750 from Normandy Avenue.

Credit card fraud was reported at 12:28 p.m. on Stanford Avenue.

Reported at 4:04 p.m.: A thief stole parts from a Ram truck on Hyer Avenue.

21 Thursday

Reported at 2:41 p.m.: A brazen burglar stole a backpack, MacBook, and wallet from a Land Rover Range Rover on Hillcrest Avenue.

22 Friday

A 25-year-old man was arrested in Plano at about 1:48 a.m. on a warrant for a local charge.

A minor crash was reported at about 11:24 a.m. on Mockingbird Lane.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on Northwest Parkway at about 4:52 p.m. for trespassing and on a warrant.

HIGHLAND PARK

18 Monday

A porch pirate stole packages containing two pairs of Roller Rabbit pajamas and other items from outside a home in the 3500 block of Normandy Avenue at about 8:41 a.m.

Reported at 9:33 a.m.: A fraudster made 291,600 frequent flyer miles fly out of the account of a resident of the 4500 block of Bordeaux Avenue. The miles apparently traveled to an address in New York.

Reported at 5:43 p.m.: A crafty thief stole between $500 and $1,000 worth of tools and a checkbook from a 2021 Ford F-150 in July that may have been left unlocked in the 3500 block of Potomac Avenue.

A brazen burglar smashed the rear window of a Ford pickup in the 4200 block of Oak Lawn Avenue before 6:15 p.m. and stole a Glock 42 handgun, a briefcase, a checkbook, and an iPad. All the items except for the gun were later recovered by University Park police.

A thief shattered the window of a Ford Explorer ST in Highland Park Village before 6:30 p.m. and stole a backpack containing a Microsoft Surface Laptop and US passport. The backpack and passport were later recovered.

19 Tuesday

A 22-year-old man was arrested on a felony warrant near the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Lexington Avenue at about 12:41 a.m.

A crooked criminal cracked two windows of a 2021 Ashton Martin in the 4400 block of South Versailles Avenue before 8 a.m.

20 Wednesday

A 44-year-old man was arrested for criminal trespassing at about 6:06 p.m. in Willowood Circle.

A low-life criminal stole a catalytic converter from underneath a 1997 Ford F-150 before 8:01 p.m. in the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane.

21 Thursday

A bumbling burglar cracked one window of a 2020 Ford F-150 parked in the 4600 block of Abbott Avenue, and smashed in another at about 4:30 a.m., but did not take anything from the truck.

A mischief maker punched out the window of a Ford Shelby F-250 in the 3500 block of Dartmouth Avenue at about 4:36 a.m., but the car’s owner did not notice anything missing.

One or more criminals broke windows of a Toyota FJ Cruiser and Ford F-150 in the 3300 block of Dartmouth Avenue before 7 a.m., and stole a bag of tools and wallet from the Ford. The wallet was later recovered, from the Ford.

A would-be thief cracked windows on a 2025 Range Rover parked in the 3500 block of Armstrong Parkway before 7 a.m., but did not succeed in entering the vehicle.

A cold-hearted criminal stole a Gucci jacket from a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 in Highland Park Village before 2:30 p.m.

22 Friday

The driver of a Mercedes-Benz GL450 parked his car and walked away after hitting the taillight of a Tesla cybertruck at about 10:40 p.m. in Highland Park Village.

A 29-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated at about 11:46 p.m. in the 4300 block of Southern Avenue.

23 Saturday

Officers arrested a 29-year-old man for possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated at about 4:09 a.m. near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and North Versailles Avenue.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested for assault causing bodily injury to a family member at about 2:36 p.m. in the 4000 block of Miramar Avenue.

A terrible turner hit a Ford Expedition at the intersection of Wycliff Avenue and Oak Lawn Avenue at about 9:50 p.m., but did not stop to leave information.

24 Sunday

A 30-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated at about 1:44 a.m. in the 3200 block of Princeton Avenue.
