Wallops Island, Va. (WSET) — If you’re out later tonight and you look to the north or northeast, you may see a bright light.
It won’t be a bird or a plane, but if all goes according to plan, it’ll be a rocket!
The Turbulent Oxygen Mixing Experiment Plus, or TOMEX+, is a NASA sounding rocket mission that will investigate one of Earth’s most turbulent atmospheric regions — the mesopause. (You can read more about this mission here.)
They have been attempting to launch the rocket for a while now, but some delays have altered those plans.
They will try again tonight in a window from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Meteorologically – there shouldn’t be any problems, but we shall wait and see.
