Steamed, stuffed, and supersized: The Texas-size fillings truly reflect the name “Fat Bao.”
HOUSTON, Texas — It’s called Fat Bao for a reason.
“Most baos are traditionally smaller, and this one here is an open bao; therefore, we want to stuff it with a good amount of ingredients,” Pak Tsui said.
Tsui is the co-owner of Fat Bao, located at 3419 Kirby Drive in Houston.
The restaurant offers a modern twist on the traditional Chinese dish, which is typically stuffed with Peking duck. At Fat Bao, their fillings vary from bulgogi to pork katsu and curry beef.
In the video above, Tsui shares his experience growing up in a Chinese restaurant his parents owned and how he wanted to open a restaurant that was unlike anything the city had seen before.
