It has been a great week so far at the WTA Berlin Open, and now we are at the business end of the tournament with just four players left in contention. The semifinals are set, and only one past champion remains in the lineup. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for both the semifinal matches, but which players will advance to the final?
WTA Berlin Semifinal Predictions
Liudmila Samsonova vs Wang Xinyu
Head-to-head: Samsonova 2-0 Wang
Liudmila Samsonova dispatched Amanda Anisimova in one of the best performances of the week in Berlin. When she is on, she can be an extremely tough opponent for anyone, and now she is the only remaining player who has won this event before. She will use it to her advantage to have a shot at another title. Xinyu Wang was playing at a high level against Paula Badosa, who had to retire after the first set due to injury. This is her first semifinal on grass at the tour-level, and she will hope to advance one step further.
Samsonova has never dropped a set to the Chinese player, and she is simply the better player on this surface when she plays her best tennis. Wang can raise her level to compete with Samsonova, but it will be difficult to beat her.
Prediction: Samsonova in 2

Aryna Sabalenka vs Marketa Vondrousova
Head-to-head: Sabalenka 4-3 Vondrousova
Aryna Sabalenka had to save four match points against Elena Rybakina in the deciding set tiebreak in the quarterfinals, with her reward a first semifinal appearance at the WTA Berlin Open. Sabalenka served for the match, but was broken and then turned it around in the tiebreak. It was a high-quality match between two great hitters and felt more than a quarterfinal. Having lost a close match recently at the French Open, this win would do a lot of good for Sabalenka’s confidence.
Marketa Vondrousova defeated Ons Jabeur in the rematch of the 2023 Wimbledon final. Her game is so disruptive to many players, and Jabeur wasn’t at her best to make it a match. Vondrousova has troubled Sabalenka before and knows how to beat her. However, she will have to be extremely aggressive on her forehand as anything short or slow will get punished. I think Vondrousova is in the right direction to make some noise at Wimbledon, but I can’t see her beating the world No.1 this time.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3
