Before San Antonio takes a break for Labor Day, the dining scene is hard at work preparing for the openings of a new Andy’s Frozen Custard, a bubbly bar near Pearl, the first Texas restaurant for a Californian breakfast chain, and a cuddly cat lounge from Austin. The latter two haven’t found a permanent home, but we’re sure they’ll scratch something up eventually. Read on for more essential Alamo City food news.
Openings
Cult ice cream chain Andy’s Frozen Custard is eyeing a new spot in North Central San Antonio, according to state records. The chain recently filed project details for a parlor at 8338 Broadway. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation listings are subject to change, but the buildout currently has the spot cone-ready by February 2026. A request for more information was not returned by publication time.
Austin’s Purrfecto Cat Lounge is coming to San Antonio. The feline-friendly coffee shop first opened in the Capital City in July 2022, offering clowders of adoptable felines, soundbaths, and yoga in a comfortable community space. The owners are aiming for a late 2025 or early 2026 opening, but have not yet settled on the exact space. Although wine will eventually be on the menu, a rep says they may initially only serve coffee while pursuing permits.
A fizzy new bar is coming to 1417 Austin St. near Pearl. Bubbles and Bourbon will presumably offer just that, although we’re betting there will be some vodka too. A video walkthrough gives a few clues to the space, which features press-tinned ceilings, marble tiling, and Art Deco-ish sconces. CultureMap has reached out to the owners for further details.
Popular California breakfast mini-chain Squeeze In says it has selected San Antonio for its first Texas restaurant, although the team is still looking for real estate. The franchise was founded in 1974 in Truckee, California, and is known for its Sharpie-scrawled walls and omelettes. A press release about the development says the company is hoping to serve Alamo City customers by mid-2026.
