SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed and a woman wounded in a shooting early Thursday at an East Side motel, the authorities said, in what investigators are describing as a domestic dispute turned deadly.

The episode unfolded just before 1 a.m. at the Knights Inn on East Houston Street near Interstate 10.

Police said an argument between the pair escalated when the woman pulled a gun and shot the man several times. In the process, she accidentally shot herself in the arm.

According to investigators, the woman later told officers she opened fire after the man assaulted her. A relative drove her from the motel to a house on Carolina Street, where she called for help.

Officers discovered the man dead inside the motel room. The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting. As of Thursday morning, no charges had been filed.
