The bill to ban THC in Texas stalled in the House.
AUSTIN, Texas — The push to ban all THC products in the state of Texas is in trouble.
The Senate passed a bill to ban THC products during the current special session. The bill, however, stalled in the House.
So what does it mean for businesses that sell THC?
At 8th Wonder Brewery in east downtown Houston, Thursday was another busy morning, and they like it that way.
Ben Meggs is the co-founder and CEO of Bayou City Hemp and 8th Wonder Brewery. He’s been watching closely the fight between Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who’s been pushing for a ban on THC products, and Governor Greg Abbott, who’s against the ban but for more restrictions.
Now with time running out, it’s possible there won’t be any new law on THC coming out of the session.
“I don’t wanna call it a victory just yet,” he said. “I don’t want to take the lap too early, but we do feel very confident and hopeful that this will continue.”
Meggs said alcohol sales are down nationwide. He says THC is one of the reasons why. They have big tanks, all filled with THC extracted from hemp plants. They brew it just like beer and then they can it like beer. Then they put it in kegs…just like their beer.
8th Wonder, with all its THC beverages and other products, is doing so well it’s expanding in Houston. It ships its products to 15 states, part of an industry with a multi-billion dollar economic impact in Texas.
Up in Austin, the THC fight might be stalled, but no one thinks that fight is over.
