SAN ANTONIO – We are at the start of Labor Day weekend, and a lot of people are expected to travel for that extra day off.
Millions are expected to hit the road, board flights, or take trains to visit family, friends, or vacation destinations during the long holiday weekend.
At San Antonio International Airport, travelers reported smooth security lines and manageable crowds early Friday morning.
“So it’s a great day. As you can see, no lines. So that’s beautiful,” said Laquan, who was heading to a wedding in Pensacola. “
Roadways are also busy.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) projects that more than 44 million Americans will travel by car over the holiday weekend, the highest Labor Day travel numbers in nearly a decade. Congestion is expected on major interstates leading to popular destinations, including beaches, national parks, and lakefront areas.
Airlines are reporting strong demand for flights, though some delays and cancellations are possible. Travelers are advised to check flight statuses before heading to the airport and to allow extra time for security screenings, especially at major hubs.
Officials are reminding travelers to take safety precautions: stay hydrated, drive carefully, and follow public health guidelines as they move about the country.
With temperatures warming across many regions, Labor Day weekend 2025 is shaping up to be a busy travel period for Americans looking to make the most of the unofficial end of summer.
