For people who live in the downtown Los Angeles neighborhood near the juncture of the 110 and 10 freeways, traffic congestion is a way of life with plenty of noise pollution.
A neighbor who only identified herself as Patricia said she has to deal with loud noise every day as she works from home.
“It’s just very noisy. A lot of car accidents. A lot of police activity as well,” she said. “We have been here for quite a bit, so we are used to the whole noise and stuff.”
Patricia lives with her daughter and mother on Wright Street within the suffocating ring of traffic as they see cars circling around them at all hours of the day.
Another neighbor Eva Lopez expressed concern for possible health hazards as she lives so close to the traffic zone. She said smoke, exhaust and other fumes coming from cars and trucks often stand idle if traffic is backed up.
Despite the unpleasant nature of living in the area, neighbors said it’s hard and costly for them to pick up and move.
“It’s just very expensive to live in LA,” Patricia lamented.
Neighbors also said they sometimes keep their windows closed to help muffle the noise and keep any smells from coming into their homes.
