Arc System Works is looking to step outside of their comfort zone with new and original “mid-range” titles

Over the past decade and a half or so, Arc System Works has truly cemented itself as one of the premier fighting game developers in the industry, but it seems they want to branch out more beyond what they’re known for.

During today’s Arc System Works Showcase, Guilty Gear creator Daisuke Ishiwatari revealed the next project he’s working on, and it’s definitely not a fighter.

The new title is called Damon and Baby, and it appears to be an isometric shooter / action game where the player controls a demon king cursed to become attached to a human child.

And it’s certainly a lot different than the rock and heavy metal wasteland of a world he created before.

Ishiwatari stated this title will serve as one of their first steps to enter the “mid-range” gaming market where new and young talent can craft their own visions without the big risks of making an original AAA project.

It’s not stated what exactly Daisuke’s role is in Damon and Baby.

The whole of the Arc System Works showcase was shockingly light on even mentions of fighting games with no Guilty Gear Strive or Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls updates in sight.

All we really got was the announcement that Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes’ next DLC character, Izumi, will be playable at Anime Expo next week starting July 3.

And there was a reminder that Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact exists but no mention of the beta test that was supposedly coming for the game.
