CROWLEY, Texas — An investigation is underway in Crowley after a photo surfaced on social media showing students sitting on the floor of a school bus, which is against Texas law.

Makayla Lyons, a parent in the Crowley Independent School District, said her son called her Wednesday morning to report that he and other students were sitting on the floor of a bus with no seats.

“My son called me, and he’s like.. I see him like… just his face- and then he’s like, ‘Mom, you got a call, and figure something out because we’re sitting on the floor. We’re on like a bus with no seats,” Lyons said.

Her son, who is not being identified due to his age, described the bus as full and lacking proper seating. “I see even people sitting in the back or the people that got on the bus before me I saw them sitting down. I’m like, where are the seats? I saw the ramp and I’m just like so we’re sitting down on the floor,” he said. He added that four students sat on the floor because the only available seat had a puddle of water.

Crowley ISD stated they had not received formal complaints from parents and learned of the incident through social media. The district acknowledged the social media post showing students on the floor, despite the 28-passenger bus having only 16 students on board with seats available.

The district emphasized that students are not permitted to sit on the floor and that the situation should have been addressed immediately. They have since met with the driver and the monitor involved.

Makayla Lyons expressed disappointment with the district’s handling of the situation. “So a little bit disappointed in Crowley ISD, I would say that,” she said.
