Detroit City FC and San Antonio FC played to a scrappy 1-1 draw at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck Saturday night.

The point left Detroit (7-7-8) tied with Hartford Athletic (8-8-5) for fifth place in the United Soccer League Championship’s Eastern Conference. Hartford defeated North Carolina FC 3-2.

San Antonio got the first goal in the 21st minute after Ates Diouf was called for a handball in the penalty area. Jorge Hernández converted the PK with a shot to the lower-left corner for the 1-0 lead.

The lead held until the 66th minute when Kobe Hernández-Foster leveled the score with a direct free kick into the upper left corner of the net.

The match got feisty in the closing minutes with multiple fracases after whistles and 10 yellow cards issued after the tying goal, including one after the match had ended.

Detroit City will remain at home on Saturday, Sept. 6, hosting Orange County SC at 7 p.m.
