Wife arrested months after deadly shooting at central Phoenix apartment

  • August 31, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Newly obtained court documents are revealing more about what led up to a deadly domestic violence shooting at a central Phoenix apartment earlier this year.

Phoenix police announced Friday that 32-year-old Erica Brown has been arrested in the shooting death of A. Trevon Brown, 31.

Officers were called out to an apartment near 22nd Avenue and Medlock Drive, just north of Camelback Road, on Feb. 25. At the time, the 911 caller told dispatch that he could hear his neighbors fighting.

Police arrived moments later and found Erica and their six children inside the apartment. According to court documents, she said that she had been arguing with A. Trevon, her husband of eight years, and claimed that he had punched, kicked, and strangled her.

It was at this point that the police said Erica told them that she grabbed a gun and pointed it at A. Trevon, telling him to leave her alone. A. Trevon then stepped toward Erica, prompting her to fire a single shot, according to court papers.

Erica allegedly said that she tried to perform CPR on him, but he died minutes later at the hospital after paramedics arrived. Authorities also noted that bruises and blood could be found on Erica’s body, the documents stated.

Investigators said that during the initial questioning in March, Erica detailed what she described as an abusive relationship, claiming that A. Trevon had hurt her before the shooting.

After Erica was arrested on Thursday, she told authorities that she only intended to shoot A. Trevon in the arm. She also explained that she felt in fear for her life during the first fight that night, but didn’t leave, according to court paperwork.

According to the documents, she also reportedly admitted to avoiding the police when they first arrived on scene because she did not want A. Trevon “in trouble.”

Erica is now booked into the Maricopa County jail on a second-degree murder charge and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Court paperwork said Erica has previous arrests, but they were redacted. There was also a domestic violence assault in Minnesota, but no other details were released.

A mug shot for Erica wasn’t immediately available.
