SAN ANTONIO – A convenience store clerk is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after trying to stop a beer thief.
It all happened Saturday night sometime after 11 p.m. on the 1200 block of Rigsby Avenue on the East Side. Police were called out to the convenience store because it was open – but there were no employees inside.
Police were then advised by dispatchers of an incident nearby where drivers saw a man on top of a vehicle that was driving erratically. So officers drove around the area and located the 32-year-old convenience store employee. He was badly injured.
After further investigation, police put the story together. Someone had come into the convenience store and stole beer. The store clerk tried to stop the beer thief and jumped on the hood of the vehicle. But the beer thief wouldn’t stop and continued to drive away. The clerk fell off the vehicle a short distance from the store.
The clerk was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
