Dallas is home to no shortage of incredible latin foods. As soon as this year, our bounty of goods will only grow with the coming Unimarket. The Canada-based Latin marketplace, food hall, and café will debut their first US-based location in Dallas as soon as this year.

Unimarket is a concept owned by Colombian-natives, Esneyder and Richard Ospina. The two brothers first debuted UniMarket in Calgary, Alberta Canada in 2008, as a small Latin American grocery store. Since then, the market has broadened the concept’s offerings, adding a food hall and café with prepared items as well as expanded with three locations across Calgary.

Today, the venue is known as a cultural destination, offering Latin American foods, coffees, and desserts as well as live events ranging from cooking demonstrations to live music.

The company has announced its plans to open its first U.S.A concept in Dallas, Texas. Coming mid-fall, the venue will be located in the space formerly occupied by Palm Beach Tan at 7215 Skillman St. #312 in Kingsley Square.

“We see a big opportunity down in Texas, from the experience we’ve gained throughout the years, to just come down here and offer a unique experience where you can taste anything from a Churrasco from Argentina to an empanada from Colombia, (while also) offering very authentic Colombian premium coffee,” Richard Ospina told the Advocate.”

Unimarket’s Dallas location will feature a grocery market, café, kitchen, and food counter inside a 2,800-square-foot space. Here, Dallasites will be able to find gourmet Latin goods as well as order/enjoy specialty Latin American breakfast, lunch, and dinner eats. The venue’s restaurant area will seat 40 patrons.

Specialties at the market’s cafe and food hall include its Latin-inspired coffees, roasted on-site, including cortados. Additionally, Unimarket features six different types of empanadas, including Chilean, Criolla, Columbian, Peruvian, Puff Pastry, and Venuzuelan on top of hot foods ranging from bandeja paisa – an iconic Columbian dish – to the Peruvian lomo saltado, Argentinian churrasco, and more.

“We’re offering a Latin immersion in Dallas,” Esneyder told Advocate. “We’re selling the experience. We’re selling that you have a place where you can feel safe, you can listen to some great light music in a beautiful sitting area, a beautiful store which is always clean with friendly service, so you can go in and taste some of these Latin gems.”

Unimarket plans to open its Dallas location as early as this September – October at the latest.
