Behind scenes with NY Mets and Mariners at MLB Little League Classic
The Little League Classic was a day chock full of events for the Mets and Mariners on Aug. 17, 2025, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
NEW YORK — After a disappointing loss in the series opener on Thursday night, the Mets responded by breaking out for 19 runs — a Mets record in their home ballpark.
The victory was underscored by Jonah Tong’s exciting debut, which included six strikeouts in five innings with one earned run allowed.
The Mets will look to make it two wins in a row over the Marlins at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Citi Field.
David Peterson will take the mound for the Mets after striking out eight and allowing two earned runs in 5⅔ innings last time out against the Braves. The left-hander brings a 8-5 record, 3.18 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into his 26th start of the season.
On the other side, Edward Cabrera will draw the start for the Marlins. The 27-year-old righty is having a career season, posting a 7-7 record with a 3.32 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 124⅔ innings this season. He struck out 10 in seven scoreless innings against the Braves last time out.
