A Phoenix woman was shot in the head inside an SUV on Saturday in Payson, and a 22-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in her death, police said.

There were three other people in the white Honda Pilot, including a 1-year-old sitting next to the victim, police said.

Payson police responded just before 10 a.m. Aug. 30 after receiving calls about a woman who had been shot inside an SUV that had pulled into a parking lot near the Payson Denny’s restaurant, according to a release.

Officers and medical help arrived. The woman was taken to Banner Payson Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation showed that Donald Nash and Keonna Honanie, 20, both from Phoenix, were in the rear seat of the SUV as it traveled through Payson.

“Nash and Honanie had been involved in an ongoing argument, and as the vehicle traveled through the 400 block of South Beeline Highway in Payson, Nash produced a firearm and shot Honanie in the head,” the Payson Police Department release stated.

Nash was booked into the Gila County Jail on one count of second-degree murder, three counts of felony endangerment and one count of resisting arrest, police said.
