Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is all set to join Aston Villa on loan.

The England international has been on Manchester United’s books for four years, since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in 2021.

Sancho was viewed as a statement signing at the time, but things have not worked out for the attacker at Old Trafford.

After two spells away on loan, Sancho is on his way for another one, this time to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa until the end of this season.

Jadon Sancho is the reason why Manchester United are not signing Emiliano Martinez

Manchester United have been interested in signing Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa all summer.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper, with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir making multiple mistakes between the sticks.

Martinez was left out of the Aston Villa squad after United made an approach to sign him on Sunday, and the Argentine remained a big target on deadline day.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United’s plan was to secure a straight swap deal that would see Martinez moving to Old Trafford and Sancho to Villa Park.

However, that idea became impossible because Sancho made it clear that he would only accept a loan move and not a permanent one.

Romano said on GiveMeSport’s Market Madness show: “With United, the deal was on until this morning.

“The idea of Manchester United, from what I’m hearing, was to do a permanent swap deal with Jadon Sancho and Emi Martinez, not to involve any money basically in the deal, with the valuation around £25 million for both players.

“But, at the moment, from what I’m hearing, this is going to be impossible because Sancho is going only on loan and Sancho is not accepting a permanent move.”

Martinez would’ve been an incredible signing for Manchester United.

The Aston Villa star, hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by Nigel Spink on BBC Radio 5 Live, has delivered for club and country on big stages, and he would’ve been a huge upgrade.

However, after Sancho refused a permanent move to Villa, United had to change their plan, and Senne Lammens is the goalkeeper Ruben Amorim’s side have turned to.

Royal Antwerp have agreed a deal with the Red Devils for the transfer of their star goalkeeper, who is now set to undergo a medical ahead of a move.

Lammens is a very talented goalkeeper, and he could turn out to be the saviour Manchester United need in goal.

However, it has to be said that Martinez would’ve been the more established option, and only time will tell if United will end up regretting missing out on him.
