Dallas City Hall
For the 2025-27 term, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson recently announced his new committee lineup on Friday, August 29.
The city mayor appoints members and chairs of each committee, and every major policy item goes through a designated committee that focuses on that topic prior to being voted on by the full council.
Committees are able to restrict proposals before they are sent to the full body including the ability to kill, pause or modify those proposals.
Only District 12 City council member Cara Mendelsohn was appointed chair to two of the eight standing committees, the Public Safety and Housing and Homelessness Solutions committees.
For the Oak Cliff council members, District 1’s Chad West is chair of the Finance committee and vice chair of the Parks, Trails, and the Environment committee.
Maxie Johnson of District 4 will chair the Government Efficiency committee and is the only freshman council member to be appointed to chair a standing committee.
District 8’s Lorie Blair will serve as vice chair of the Housing and Homelessness Solutions committee.
West was also appointed as a chair to one of the five ad hoc committees, specially the Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Sports Recruitment and Retention. The previous term included six hoc committees and removed the committee on Legislative Affairs which was previously included in July.
