A Philadelphia woman has been charged with corruption of minors in a theft through under-ringing merchandise in separate retails in Clifton Heights recently.
Borough police charged Ladreda Simpson, 45, in two incidents.
On Aug. 14, Simpson and two teenage girls, one who was related to her, were stopped leaving the Dollar Tree with unpaid merchandise.
It was found that all three were observed concealing store merchandise while acting together and attempting to flee with a shopping cart full, without paying, police said, in a notice on social media. The two juveniles were also charged.
During that investigation, police located more than a $1,000 in merchandise from the Burlington Coat Factory in Simpson’s possession.
When police looked into that, they charged Simpson with additional retail thefts and arrested a Burlington Coat Factory employee, an 18-year-old woman from Drexel Hill, after she admitted to the store loss prevention she played a role as the cashier in under-ringing the items.
Simpson was arraigned by District Judge David H. Lang and released on $15,000 unsecured bail. She has a scheduled Sept. 9 preliminary hearing.
