FORT WORTH – Joe Mendez Mata Sr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, Auguest 27, 2025. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025 in the Sandburg Suite at Mount Olivet Chapel, 2301 North Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76111. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 4100 Blue Mound Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76106. Interment to follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Born April 10, 1940, in Keller, Texas to Felix and Maclovia Mendez Mata. Joe spent his childhood there before moving to Fort Worth. After graduating from Trimble Tech High School, Joe served in the Navy. He began his career with the Vought Corporation (later known as Northrop Grumman) on September 26, 1966, he worked for the company for more than 40 years before retiring. Joe married Margaret Cano on January 25, 1969, in Fort Worth, Texas. They had three wonderful children and lived a fantastic life. A good provider for his family and a hard-working man, Joe was also a mechanic, coach and mentor to them. A dutiful husband and an exceptional father, Joe enjoyed taking his family on road trips which included many trips to Galveston, San Antonio, California and Florida. When his children got older and had children of their own, he would plan trips for the whole family, ensuring his grandchildren experienced Disneyland and Disney World. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Maclovia Mata; his in-laws, Pat and Maria Cano, whom he treated as his own parents; his five brothers and three sisters; and his beloved son-in-law, Benito Diaz. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Cano Mata; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Trent Cundieff; daughter, Mary Helen Diaz; son, Joe Mata Jr.; granddaughter, Alyssa Vaughan and her husband, Tyler; granddaughter, Stephanie Ayala; granddaughter, Marisa Gomez and her husband, Jose; granddaughter, Alex Cundieff; grandson, Cade Cundieff; great-granddaughter, Maclovia Gomez; great-grandsons, Ardan and Broden Vaughan; and many other family members.
