Springport, N.Y. — A Cayuga County man who works at a school was charged Friday with sexually abusing a child under the age of 11, deputies said.

Craig S. Gilmore, 63, of Springport, was charged with first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and first-degree sexual abuse, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

After a week-long investigation, deputies arrested Gilmore at his home.

Gilmore was a maintenance worker at Union Springs Academy in Union Springs, according to the school’s principal, Timothy Raymond. Gilmore was fired as a result of his arrest, he said.

Raymond said the alleged abuse did not involve the school or students.

The academy is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian boarding school.

Gilmore is being held at the Cayuga County Jail.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and limited information is being released at this time.

Deputies ask anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 315-253-1610.
