The Tempe City Council voted 6-0 to reconsider the controversial parks special event ordinance approved in July.
Mayor Corey Woods stated at the beginning of the meeting the item would need at least two-thirds, or 4 votes to approve the reconsideration as Councilmember Randy Keating was absent. It was passed unanimously despite the original ordinance also being passed unanimously.
The ordinance initially sought to put more requirements on gatherings in parks. Opponents blasted the ordinance saying it was targing groups who were working to help the city’s homeless.
