5-year-old Florida boy wanders to Chick-fil-A alone

  • September 3, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says they received “a unique call.”

According to a post from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, patrol officers received a call about a 5-year-old boy who wandered into a Chick-fil-A alone. Authorities say Chick-fil-A employees immediately called and kept the boy safe until officers arrived.

“Officers Kelly and Perri found little William happily enjoying breakfast and lots of attention from the staff,” JSO said according to its post.

Let’s start the week with some positivity! ☀️

Earlier this summer, two of our District 3 Patrol officers got a unique call: a 5-year-old had wandered into the Chick-fil-A on San Jose Boulevard all by himself. Officers Kelly and Perri found little William happily enjoying… pic.twitter.com/eNdBEskVga

Authorities clarified that the parents were not in any trouble and had taken several safety measures.

JSO says the boy was able to identify his home after a police car ride, but officers were unable to get through the gate the boy had squeezed through before.

The sheriff’s office says they want to use this story with a happy ending as an example for others.

“This is a good reminder to teach kids their home address, parents’ names, and a phone number. It could make a big difference in an emergency.”
