Sabrina Carpenter‘s confidence isn’t defined by any manchildren.

Speaking with Mel Ottenberg for Interview Magazine’s September issue, the pop star, 26, addressed how she feels about the longevity of her hotness (currently she feels “so good” about “being hot”), and revealed her outlook on beauty while simultaneously calling out her haters.

“It’s usually pretty insufferable men that think I’m hideous, but when I think about beauty, it’s been about when I myself feel beautiful. It has nothing to do with other people,” she said in the Sept. 3 cover story.

She continued: “I haven’t really grappled with what’s going to happen as I get older, but my mom’s always been a natural beauty and always really encouraged me to just let it happen. She’s like, ‘Let the world weather you.’ The world is definitely weathering me right now.”

Carpenter does know exactly what she wants when it comes to glam. “I feel hottest when I feel the most me,” she shared, adding that “pretty, wavy curly hair and a nice tan, freckles, a dewy cheek situation and obviously a lip liner,” up her confidence.

“I love glam. I really, really do. My mom was a dancer, so growing up, makeup and dance recitals and dress-up, all of it was very, very normal for me. Even right now, I get really excited to dress up. I’m wearing my mom’s clothes, and now it’s a little bit more realistic, because I’m the same age that she was when she was dancing,” she said, also pointing out her love for wearing wigs, which became a much-talked-about subject during her Short n’ Sweet Tour.

Carpenter released Man’s Best Friend , her seventh studio album, on Aug. 29, and it includes 12 tracks featuring her signature tongue-in-cheek songwriting that gives an insight into breakups, her sexual frustrations, getting treated poorly in a relationship and wishing her ex the worst.

“I started writing this album pretty much the day after I finished Short n’ Sweet because I was in the midst of a lot, personally, in my head, and I was like, ‘It would be really bad if I just stopped writing,'” Carpenter shared during a Q&A with Owen Thiele held just hours before the record’s release.

After writing “Manchild” during “a specific, unfortunate chapter of my life,” the rest of the album fell into place. “There was some recurring themes, I thought, ‘I think this all goes together in one place and it should be while I’m still this confused and young,'” Carpenter said. “So this album happened and it feels like a diary entry.”
