Mary Jane Haggart
OBITUARY
Mary Jane Haggart, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19th, in Ashland, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Morrison, Illinois, Mary Jane was raised in Morrison and Wheaton where she attended Wheaton Central High School. While commuting on the “L” train into Chicago, she met Gale Haggart of Naperville who was attending pharmacy school at the University of Illinois. They soon fell in love, married and had two children. After a vacation to La Jolla, California in 1962 they decided to relocate and moved to La Jolla shortly thereafter. They enjoyed a wonderful life together where Mary Jane spent the majority of her time raising a family and creating a home filled with warmth, love, and golden retrievers — her favorite companions. Mary Jane was deeply devoted to her beloved husband of 50 years and their life together was a reflection of her enduring love and quiet strength. Mary Jane is survived by her son, Gregg Haggart (Taos, New Mexico) and his wife Deborah; her daughter, Stacy Thornton (Ashland, Missouri) and her husband Paul; her grandchildren Sarah (Thornton) Ladd, Kelsey (Haggart) Kolb, and Colin Haggart; and three beautiful great-granddaughters, Carly, Raegan and Rowan who brought her so much joy in her later years. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and the way she made everyone feel at home. Her favorite quote, which she lived by every day was “I find the best thing in life is to be kind, just to be kind.” Mary Jane’s life was a quiet testament to that belief, and her legacy of kindness and love lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. A private family service will be held in celebration of her life.
