Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has opened the door to a possible appearance at Los Angeles 2028.
Flag football will make its Olympic debut at the next summer Games, with NFL players clear to compete in the event.
And while three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes ruled himself out of contention back in May, fellow QB Herbert admits the opportunity would be “really cool”.
“I think it would be a great opportunity for LA,” the American said ahead of the NFL season, which starts on Thursday (4 September).
“It’s a great city and they care so much about their sports. And they’re a very passionate fanbase as well. At the same time, being an Olympic athlete would be really cool.
“Being able to share that passion for the game, whether it’s football or another Olympic sport, you know it’s going to be a really cool opportunity for whoever plays in it.”
Other NFL players to have shown interest in competing at LA28 include Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Featuring six men’s and six women’s teams, each composed of 10 players, flag football will be contested in a five-on-five format at LA28.
Each NFL team will be permitted to send one player to the Olympics, along with an additional international player if designated.
