From the Archives goes back today to September 1927 for this photo of a large crowd gathered at Balboa Stadium to celebrate Charles Lindbergh and his achievement of flying nonstop across the Atlantic a few months earlier in May. Lindbergh returned for a parade and reception in September to San Diego, where Ryan Airline Co. had built his plane, The Spirit of St. Louis.
