SAN ANTONIO — University Health hosted Wellness Wednesday at the Robert B. Green Campus Pharmacy, offering free health screenings to detect high risks of heart attacks, strokes, and other chronic conditions.
The event provides blood pressure screenings, blood cholesterol checks, and blood glucose tests.
Pharmacists emphasize the importance of early detection, noting that high blood pressure is often a “silent killer.” Dewayne Davidson, Assistant Director of Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Practice at University Health, said, “There are certainly folks with really high cholesterol that run in families that can lead to early heart attacks or even strokes in your 20s or 30s. And we really want to catch those folks and get them started on medication that’ll help prevent that.”
Edward Moore, a patient who attended the event, expressed the significance of regular health check-ups. “I think it’s very important to see doctors to make sure that things are going ok and if something is going wrong, they can catch it in time,” said Moore, who is approaching his 70th birthday.
For those who were unable to attend, University Health encourages individuals to call and arrange screenings at a later date.
