The first case is that of death row inmate Darrell James Robinson. Three judges dissented on the rehearing decision – Chief Justice John Weimer and Justices John Guidry and Piper Griffin.

The state’s high court earlier this year reaffirmed the first-degree murder conviction and death penalty charges against the quadruple murderer.

Nearly 30 years ago, Robinson shot and killed a family of four in the Poland Community – Billy Lambert, Carol Hooper, Maureen Kelley and her infant son, Nicholas.

The second case denied a rehearing is the 2018 murder of Thomas Coutee, Jr. by Kayla Giles.

Three judges also dissented on this rehearing decision – Chief Justice John Weimer, Justice John Guidry and Ad Hoc Judge Jeanette Knoll.

Giles shot and killed her estranged husband in the parking lot of the Walmart on Coliseum Boulevard in Alexandria in September 2018. She was found guilty of second-degree murder and other charges in January 2022.
