HONDO, Texas – A group of employees at a Hondo business is being credited with saving an infant’s life after stopping a man who police say tried to harm the child and throw the baby into a dumpster.

The incident happened around 3:22 p.m. Friday at Peerless Equipment on U.S. 90 East.

According to the Hondo Police Department, witnesses saw the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Kyle Bruce of San Antonio, attempting to injure the infant.

Employees immediately intervened, restraining Bruce and protecting the child until officers arrived.

The infant was transported to a hospital, treated, and later reunited with the mother. Police say the child is expected to make a full recovery.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect had earlier been involved in a disturbance with the child’s mother in Bexar County. During that altercation, Bruce allegedly left the mother at a gas station and fled with the baby before being confronted at Peerless Equipment.

He was booked into the Medina County Jail on charges of felony endangering a child and felony injury to a child.
