A knife-wielding woman arrested after a SWAT team was called in response to a family disturbance in the Westlake district was identified Friday.
Officers responded at approximately 8:20 a.m. Thursday to the 300 block of South Lafayette Park Place, between Hoover and Alvarado streets, following a call about an assault with a deadly weapon suspect, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspect, identified Friday as Julian Douglas, was observed by officers standing in the apartment courtyard, armed with a butcher knife and with blood on her hands, police said.
The officers gave several commands for Douglas to drop the weapon, but she refused and entered a nearby residence and barricaded herself in a closet with the knife, police said.
After giving additional orders for Douglas to surrender and drop the weapon, with her not complying, LAPD Metropolitan Division Special Weapons and Tactics personnel were requested to the location.
Several hours into the standoff, chemical projectiles were deployed. Douglas eventually emerged from her residence still armed with the knife, prompting officers to shock her with a Taser and fire two less-lethal rounds at her, police said.
Douglas was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment and later taken into custody.
No officers or other individuals were injured.
