YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (CBS2) — If you visited Yellowstone National Park in August, you certainly weren’t alone.

Yellowstone National Park experienced a slight uptick in visitors this August, with 881,936 recreation visits recorded. This marks a 2% increase from August 2024, which saw 868,259 visits. However, this year’s August visitation was still 4% lower than the record-breaking August of 2021, when 921,844 visitors flocked to the park.

In 2025, Yellowstone has welcomed 3,547,967 recreation visits so far, according to the National Park Service, reflecting a 2% rise from the same period in 2024, which had 3,494,350 visits. Despite this increase, the current year’s numbers are down 1% from 2021, when the park recorded 3,590,609 visits by the end of August.

The park’s visitation trends over recent years show fluctuations due to various factors, including closures. In 2022, the park was closed for several days in June due to a historic flood event, resulting in 2,437,607 visits by August. In 2020, the park faced closures from March to May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to 2,556,528 visits by the end of August.
