STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Despite the change in season, some things stay the same, including the various road closures that impact New York City traffic on weekends.

The first weekend of September is no different and several events are expected to shut down city streets and could potentially prompt detours for motorists.

Among this weekend’s events which could impact travel are the 2025 Labor Day Parade in Manhattan and the continuation of the U.S. Open in Queens.

While roadways will be closed this weekend, several others will be closed in the days that follow. As the U.N. General Assembly is convening once again, city residents should anticipate Manhattan road closures through much of the month ahead.

As noted in an advisory from the NYPD, the closures will be at the discretion of police.

Here’s the upcoming road closures:

Saturday, Sept. 6U.S. Open in Queens (Aug. 25 – Sept. 7)

2025 Labor Day Parade in Manhattan

The festival will take place on 3rd Avenue between 66th Street and 86th Street.

Sunday, Sept. 7NYRR New Balance 5th Avenue Mile 2025 in Manhattan

The race will be on 5th Avenue between 84th Street and 79th Street.

The route will run along 5th Avenue between 80th Street and 59th Street, as well as 62nd, 63rd and 79th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue.

Dispersal will be at 5th Avenue between 60th Street and 59th Street, in addition to 60th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue.
