There’s no doubt that Draymond Green has played a role in Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors going on their most glorious run the franchise has ever seen over the past decade.

However, Green is also known for ruining the Warriors’ chances of winning more titles. While four championships will be remembered forever, Green has certainly gotten himself into some controversy. Even so, Curry has made it clear that he still supports his Warriors teammate 100% no matter what.

How Did Stephen Curry Describe Draymond Green in His New Book?

In an excerpt from Curry’s new book that’s coming out soon, “Shot Ready,” the two-time MVP explained why, warts and all, he fully embraces Green as a teammate all these years later.

“When you are looking for someone to partner with in a business venture, you have to be careful about selecting someone who’s just like you, you don’t get much from redundant, overlapping skills and approaches. The same applies when you’re trying to build a winning team culture in basketball. If there were two Steph Currys leading our team, two players who were reserved and stoic in their approach to leadership, our locker room would be missing energy (and even just literal volume) that’s needed to inspire a team to greatness. You need steady, resolute, quiet leadership sometimes and sometimes you need someone who’ll just stir things up. Luckily, we found just the right man for the job.”

“Of course, I am talking about Draymond Green. He was the steal of the 2012 NBA Draft, the 35th overall pick, and he transformed our team. You won’t necessarily perceive his gifts just looking at what’s on the stat sheet, but he’s going to pass the eye test every single time. He simply makes winning plays. Every time,” Curry wrote (h/t Warriorsworld).

Through and through, Curry simply embraces Green as a teammate regardless of his antics. Note that said antics may have screwed the Warriors out of flat-out dominating the NBA for who knows how long.

Green hitting LeBron James in the groin in Game 4 of the 2016 NBA Finals led to the Warriors blowing a 3-1 lead and, by extension, the title. Then, Green ran Kevin Durant out of town three years after he joined the team the following offseason. After winning their fourth title in 2022, Green punching Jordan Poole in training camp set the Warriors back even further.

Despite all of that, Curry still accepts Green because he helps the Warriors win no matter what. Green is one of the least flashy all-time players the NBA has ever seen, but he was undeniably one of their most valuable players in four title runs.

It is painful to know that the Warriors could have had more titles had it not been for Green’s hotheadedness, but the number of titles from the Stephen Curry era may very well be zero if it weren’t for him.
