A woman is in critical condition after hitting a deputy’s patrol car on SH-249.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A woman is in critical condition after a major crash involving a Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy on State Highway 249 Saturday afternoon.

It happened on the northbound lanes of SH-249 near Cypress Road. According to the HCSO, a deputy was outside his patrol vehicle, assisting a disabled vehicle, when he saw another vehicle rapidly approaching.

Investigators said the driver, an adult woman, struck the rear of the deputy’s patrol car. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it appeared she was possibly impaired and not wearing a seatbelt.

The deputy was not injured.

All northbound lanes were shut down following the crash and have since then reopened.
