Three 18-year-olds have been arrested in connection with a shooting in North Richland Hills that left a woman dead and a man injured, police said.

A 21-year-old Dallas woman was fatally shot just after midnight in the 8600 block of Airport Freeway, North Richland Hills police said in a news release.

Two North Richland Hills officers were working off duty near the site at the time, police said. One of the officers returned fire at the suspects, police said.

A 23-year-old man was also shot. The other off-duty officer provided medical help to him by applying a tourniquet, police said. He was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives determined an altercation between several people happened before the shooting, police said.

The three teens were arrested, and detectives recovered what they suspect is the murder weapon, police said.

The identity of the woman killed wasn’t immediately disclosed and will be released by the medical examiner’s office at a later time.
