KENSINGTON – The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian early Sunday morning.
What we know
According to police, at roughly 12:35 a.m. on Sept. 7, a vehicle described as possibly being a black Jeep Wrangler struck the pedestrian who was crossing the intersection at Trenton Street and Lehigh Avenue in Kensington.
Officials say the vehicle was headed westbound on Lehigh Avenue at the time of the crash and that the driver did not stop to help the victim, but rather fled the scene.
The pedestrian has been identified as Joe Lisojo, 63, a mechanic known in the community as Pioneer Joe. He has three daughters and three grandsons.

Lisojo reportedly suffered a fractured hip, leg injuries, lacerations and a head injury, and was transported to Temple University Hospital for treatment and underwent surgery. He’s currently in an induced coma and has multiple surgeries ahead.
His daughter spoke with FOX 29’s Ellen Kolodziej and said that he has a long recovery ahead.
Joshua Bradford, a neighbor who spoke with Kolodzieg as well said he heard the crash and saw the scene right below his window. He said his car was recently hit by someone who drove away.
“[I}t seems like there’s a huge issue with a lot of cars just barreling down the street late at night…I know a lot of poeple speed down this avenue,” he said. “It’s really tragic to see.”
Tom Brennan, another neighbor, told Kolodzieg that he thought something like this was bound to happen.
“I’m glad I put my scooter away,” he said.
In the meantime, Philadelphia Police are asking anyone who may have seen the crime to contact them immediately.
