NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Tennessee Titans dropped a tough week one matchup to the Denver Broncos, and while the team doesn’t have high expectations on the field this season, the football season has bets placed in Tennessee early and often, thanks to Cam Ward’s rookie of the year hopes and SEC Country’s vast footprint.
Last year, the $41.6M was brought into the state in tax revenue through sports betting from September to December, according to documents obtained by FOX17 from the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council.
Generally speaking, that time frame is just the regular season. January and February 2025 saw another $17M+ in tax rev.
DraftKings Race & Sportsbook director Johnny Avello sat down with FOX17 News’ Johnny Maffei to talk about trends and where people are putting their money this year. He says the expanded College Football Playoff changes a lot. “We’ve looked at it certainly a lot differently because there’s 12 now that get in. Sure, there are some smaller conferences that are gonna get in, but one loss doesn’t mean you’re on the outside looking in,” Avello says.
More exciting games mean more money spent.
