Virginia Tech has named the committee tasked with overseeing a national search for the inaugural executive director of the Institute for Advanced Computing.

Located in Alexandria, the institute unites top innovators in computing technologies to integrate faculty and students into the technology ecosystem of the nation’s capital and beyond.

The executive director will serve as the visionary and strategic leader responsible for launching, shaping, and growing the institute. Working collaboratively with senior university leadership and reporting to the vice president of the greater Washington, D.C., area, the executive director will lead the institute in becoming a national leader in advanced computing research and education.

  • Rose Hu, professor and department head, electrical and computer engineering
  • Christine Julien, professor and department head, computer science
  • Lingjia Liu, professor, electrical and computer engineering
  • Letitia Long, alumna and former rector of the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors
  • Horacio Valeiras, alumnus and former rector of the Board of Visitors
  • Kurt Luther, associate professor, computer science
  • Naren Ramakrishnan, professor, computer science
  • Saonee Sarker, dean, Pamplin College of Business
  • Angelos Stavrou, professor, electrical and computer engineering
  • Monecia Taylor, vice president, Advancement
  • Tom Martin, co-interim executive director, Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology
  • Andy Woodall,- assistant vice provost, Enrollment Management
  • Chris Yianilos, vice president, Government and Community Relations

The search committee will be supported by a staff that includes Ron Fricker, vice provost for faculty affairs; Rachel Gabriele, associate vice provost for faculty affairs; and Peggy Vilardo administrative assistant for faculty affairs. Virginia Tech is partnering with Isaacson, Miller to assist with the search process and manage nominations and applications for the position.
