After 68-0 rout of Akron, Huskers set sights on Houston Christian

  • September 8, 2025

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Matt Rhule and the Huskers look to keep their early season momentum rolling this weekend as the Houston Christian Huskies visit Lincoln for an 11 a.m. kick on Saturday.

Nebraska’s 20-17 season opening win against Cincinnati left fans wondering how this year’s squad would fare. Saturday’s 68-0 drubbing of Akron answered many of those questions. Nebraska posted their largest point total since 2012 and the most yardage (728) since 2014. Husker quarterback Dylan Raiola threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns while Emmett Johnson dominated on the ground with 140 yards and three total touchdowns. Jacory Barney Jr. led the wideouts with 132 receiving yards and collected 87 punt return yards – more than the Huskers had in all of 2024. On defense, the Blackshirts recorded the program’s first shutout since a 33-0 win over Arizona in the 2009 Holiday Bowl, forcing a 728-175 edge in total yards.

Houston Christian comes to Lincoln with a 1-1 record and is led by second-year head coach Jason Bachtel. The Huskies opened their season with a 69-0 win over Arkansas Baptist, but dropped their game this last weekend to Eastern Kentucky 20-10.

We’re scheduled to hear from Head Coach Matt Rhule on Monday morning, with offensive and defensive coordinators Dana Holgorsen and John Butler meeting with the media on Tuesday. Look for their full press conference videos in the video player above as they become available through the week.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. kickoff with the game airing on FS1. The forecast for Saturday is a hot one with high of around 90° Saturday afternoon. Needless to say, it will be much warmer inside the stadium for kickoff this weekend than it was last weekend. Make sure to plan accordingly and keep yourself hydrated both in and outside the stadium.
