PHOENIX — A man is dead after crashing his car into a median and a metal pole in west Phoenix early Monday morning, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said officers were called to a crash near Black Canyon Highway and Thomas Road just before 1 a.m.

When the officers got to the scene, they found a 59-year-old man inside a compact SUV that had crashed.

He was pulled out of the car by Phoenix firefighters, who evaluated him and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Details of deadly crash in west Phoenix

According to the initial investigation from the Phoenix Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Unit, the man lost control of his car. He then collided with a raised median in the center of the road and a metal pole.

No other details were released.

The investigation into this crash is still underway.
