The Hancock College and Cal Poly football teams both took a pounding Saturday.

Bakersfield routed Hancock 33-7 at Bakersfield, and FBC member Utah thumped FCS member Cal Poly 63-9 at Utah.

Bakersfield moved to 2-0. Hancock is 1-1. Utah is 2-0. Cal Poly is 1-1.

The Bakersfield defense out-scored the Hancock offense 2-0. The Renegades got a safety for the first points of the game. Dylan (DY-lon) Heath returned an interception 59 yards for the Bulldogs touchdown.

Hancock mustered a grand total of nine rushing yards on 29 attempts. Bulldogs quarterback Drake Missamore was 17-for-27 passing for 128 yards, but the Renegades intercepted Missamore twice.

Both of Dylan Johnson’s receptions were on the two touchdown passes by Bakersfield quarterback Carson Woods. Woods threw for 157 yards.

The Bakersfield run game bruised the Bulldogs for 189 yards. Ian Jernigan rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Hancock will play a non-league game at Golden West (2-0) this Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Mustangs took a drubbing from the only FBS opponent they will face this year.

The Cal Poly scoring came in the form of three field goals. Noah Serna field goals of 30 and 51 yards were sandwiched around a 47-yard field goal by Gianluca Dimauro.

Utah quarterback Devan Dampier connected on 17 of his passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns. The Utes racked up 273 yards rushing. Utah used nine ball carriers, and four ran for at least 30 yards.

Cal Poly, which is an FCS member, will host NCAA Division 2 member Western Oregon (1-0) in the Mustangs’ home opener Saturday at 5 p.m.
